I have been painting and creating artworks in many mediums for the past 49 years. I began my formal Art education in 1977 at WAIT (now Curtin University in Western Australia) concurrently with a teaching diploma. I have enjoyed a long career teaching art in various forms and from primary to tertiary levels. This experience has allowed me to adapt to each teaching context and given me the flexibility to apply different media and applications. I work mainly in oils and acrylics with some mixed media and printmaking, but also have a background in ceramics and textiles. I work from my home studio in Bunbury, Western Australia.
I have also been successful in other fields. My wearable art piece was selected for showcase in the Wearable Art Mandurah 2019, and I have also won three Australia-wide competitions for my ANZAC installations and artwork through the ANZAC Day Schools' Award.
My three works for BCC Artex this year are inspired by favourite aquatic playgrounds of mine and places of incredible natural beauty. Through my love and involvement in many water sports, I love the ocean and love to paint it in many different ways, from powerful to serene and inviting.
My work is generally inspired by our beautiful southwest region's local landscapes and seascapes, incorporating the forests and coastlines from Bunbury to Albany.
