Growing up in the bush of Central Victoria in Yellow Gum and Ironbark country, I became a bird watcher from an early age. This led to a natural inclination to paint with watercolours because that is what was available to me at the time; mix this with working for many years as a design drafter, and my style developed early. In my earlier adult years, bird photography dominated my creativity, and painting took a back seat until about 1993. Since then, I have produced only watercolours of birds, landscapes, and portraits. Now retired, I have finally found the freedom to paint my favourite bird subjects full-time.
The bushland of southern WA has provided plenty of subject material for both landscape painting and wildlife paintings. My landscapes mostly feature the karri forests, farmlands, and bush trails through the Margaret River, Pemberton, and Nannup districts.
Reference material for paintings includes photographs, field sketches, and bird skins for bird portraits. My landscapes and portraits are typically painted on either Arches 300gsm Hot Pressed Paper using the finest professional watercolours and brushes that are currently available in the world. Since 2015, a range of paintings have been published as Limited Edition and Open Prints.
I operate a private art studio in Margaret River, and my works are represented in a few WA Galleries, including Aspects of Kings Park, Perth.
