Joel Smoker has travelled widely around Westen Australia for many years seeking out places that interest him and may offer good compositions for the pastel drawings that he has produced. When he finds a good location, he sets up his folding chair, clips on his paper to a MDF board and draws what he sees in front of him. He then takes a photograph of the scene and uses this as a reference when he completes the piece in his Red Dirt Arts Studio at 46 Austral Parade, South Bunbury.
Joel has exhibited widely around Australia since 1979, showing his works which include ceramics, photography, pastel drawings and silk screen prints. Joel's art is represented in major art collections including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the City of Fremantle, the Shire of Mundaring, the City of Geraldton and the Murdoch University art collections.
