I have moved away from more representational painting, and I am experimenting with more abstract forms. I enjoy the looseness and freedom that this new direction brings, and by adding collage elements and new textural layers, my work is finding added depth and interest. I am exploring that edge between abstract and realism, where I hope to capture the essence of a scene or concept without making a direct copy of it.
I paint on board or canvas with mixed media, oil and acrylic .
My work is mainly about beauty in the natural world. That wonderful moment when your breath is taken away by a certain effect of light or colour or form.
If I can capture that instance of catching your breath and combine it with a sense of mystery, a mood, or a feeling in my work, then I have succeeded. Yet, the viewer is granted enough room to make their own interpretation and story. My paintings may have some sense of realism, but they have space for different narratives. People are intrigued by stories and love to bring their own interpretations to my work. That is my intent.
