Inspired by the environment of Margaret River, country, land, and sea, Marelize uses chalk and charcoal as medium and soulful sheep as subject. The sheep feature as a metaphor and expression of inner conflict and resolution, an embodiment of uncomfortable and intangible concepts of social and emotional construct.
Marelize studied Fine Arts at Stellenbosch, Fashion Design in Pretoria and worked as a graphic and web designer in Johannesburg. Arrived in Australia 12 years ago and started calling Margaret River home for the past six years.
The City of Tshwane, South Africa, awarded her with a trophy for works on paper in 2010.
In 2016, she won a merit at the Annual Wanneroo Art Awards.
She received 1st prize for drawing at the 2023 Margaret River District Agricultural Show.
