Holborn, Elaine
I have been a painter on and off for 20 years, starting my journey when my children were young and we were living in Jakarta, Mumbai and Darlington. I now live on Wardandi Noongar land in WA
I am a semi-abstract artist of landscapes and flowers - inspired by the shapes, shadows, patinas and textures found in nature. I paint in oils, oil sticks - using bold colours, cold wax, sand and chalk to add texture and interest to my work. My process includes layering paint, which I scrape back, carve into, rub back and sand. The composition of my paintings are emphasised with a flattened perspective, rendering a slightly skewed aspect to the finished piece.
The tools of my trade are many and varied from palette knives, to old credit cards, rags and pottery tools and even my fingers and hands. If I’m not in my studio, a semi-renovated 1930’s railway carriage, I can be found in my garden which is on 5 acres in Gelorup.
