Hilly Coufreur is an abstract artist who loves working with oil paints. Hilly creates bold, vibrant pieces that draw inspiration from the natural world around her. Her practice is rooted in experimentation — with texture, colour, and line — usually on small size substrates.
Originally from the Netherlands, Hilly trained as a primary school teacher before moving to New Zealand with her husband, artist Jos Coufreur. Together they raised four children, and it wasn’t until they had all left home that Hilly began painting. Encouraged by Jos, she discovered a love for abstract art and quickly found her own creative voice.
Eventually, with all four of their children settling in Perth, Hilly and her husband made the decision to move to Western Australia. They now live and paint in the scenic hills near Donnybrook, WA.
