Becky Austin is an emerging artist from Perth who paints large, powerful abstracts exploring the urban landscape. Her work is inspired by her thoughts and feelings, and the interplay between man-made objects and structures and the natural world.
She works in acrylics and dry mixed media using collage and a variety of painting techniques with non-traditional tools to create her unique works. Becky paints intuitively, using colour, texture, and line to capture our connection with our environments over time and space, the movement and essence of these places, the quiet rhythms and feelings they evoke. Throughout her works, strong graphic shapes, and areas of quiet interact with soft patterns and gentle lines. Becky’s paintings are a visual song, deliberately layered, and vibrantly coloured, they speak to the heart.
Becky has participated in many group exhibitions and was a finalist in the South Perth Emerging Artist Award in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and a finalist in the Melville Art Award in 2022. She was also a finalist in the City of Bayswater Art Awards in 2021 and 2022 and was proud to contribute artworks to the Lawley Art Auction in 2022, 2023 and 2024 and the Bunbury Catholic College Art Extraordinaire in 2023. Her work is held in private collections throughout Western Australia.
